Dermal Fillers Q & A

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injected under your skin, where they add volume to areas of your face. Fillers can smooth the appearance of lines and wrinkles, lift your cheeks, and plump up your lips.

As you age, the healthy layer of fat below your skin begins to thin out and sag from the effect of gravity. Dermal fillers solve this problem by replacing the lost volume.

Most dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a substance that’s naturally produced in your skin. Hyaluronic acid binds with water to hydrate and creates a natural cushion.

What types of dermal fillers are available?

Dr. Ntaimo and the team at Empowerment Med offer a variety of dermal fillers so they can customize each patient’s aesthetic treatment. A few examples of your dermal filler options include:

Juvéderm®

The Juvéderm family of fillers includes multiple products designed to target specific problem areas. For example, Juvéderm targets moderate-to-severe lines and wrinkles around your nose and mouth, while Juvéderm Voluma® is formulated to treat your cheeks by restoring volume and lifting your cheeks. Juvéderm Ultra® and Ultra Plus® can be used to fill the lips for a plumper, more youthful look.

Restylane®

This is another group of dermal fillers that includes several products. Restylane corrects severe wrinkles and folds. Restylane® Kysse is designed to correct thin lips, restoring a plumper, fuller appearance. It can also be used to smooth wrinkles around your mouth.

What should I expect during and after treatment?

During your consultation, the team at Empowerment Med reviews your medical history and aesthetic expectations. After determining which dermal filler is best for you, they give you more information about the procedure and what to expect.

Dermal fillers only take about 15-30 minutes to inject, depending on the area being treated. If multiple areas are being treated, it can take longer. There can be bruising after the procedure that may take a few days to heal.  However, it is usually still possible to return to your normal daily activities soon after treatment.

You’ll see results immediately. Dermal fillers last six months to a year, depending on the product. One filler, Juvéderm Voluma, lasts up to two years.*

If you want to reverse the signs of aging, call the office or book a consultation online today to learn which options will work best for you.

*Individual results may vary.
